Stones of Remembrance – Don’t Forget What God Has Done
Key Verse:
“In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them… the Lord your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over.” – Joshua 4:21–22
The Setting
After crossing the Jordan, God told Joshua to have one man from each tribe pick up a stone from the riverbed and set it up as a memorial. These stones would stand as a permanent reminder of God’s faithfulness.
The Deeper Lesson
We are forgetful people. God knows that. So He gives us ways to remember His faithfulness—not because He needs reminding, but because we do.
Every stone represented a story. A miracle. A moment of God’s power. And those stones were for the generations to come, so children would know: “God was here. God is faithful.”
The Purpose
The purpose of this story is to remind us to mark the moments of God’s faithfulness in our own lives. Whether it’s journaling, a song, a tradition, or even a physical reminder—let’s create “stones of remembrance” to pass on the story of His goodness.
Prayer for Today
Lord, help me not to forget Your faithfulness. Show me how to mark the moments where You’ve worked in my life, so I can pass the story of Your goodness to others. May my life itself be a memorial to Your grace. Amen.
