Sourdough Apple Fritters (Crispy, Cozy, and Cinnamon-Kissed) 🍎🍩
Why This Recipe?
These fritters are like mini fall festivals in your hand—crispy edges, fluffy centers, chunks of real apple, and a warm cinnamon glaze to tie it all together. The sourdough discard gives them a little tang that balances the sweetness just right.
🛠️ Ingredients:
1 cup sourdough discard
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
1 apple, peeled and finely diced
Oil for frying
For the Glaze:
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1–2 tbsp milk
1/4 tsp cinnamon
⚡️ Instructions:
1️⃣ In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cinnamon.
2️⃣ In another bowl, whisk sourdough discard, milk, and egg until smooth. Add to the dry ingredients and stir to combine.
3️⃣ Fold in the diced apple.
4️⃣ Heat oil in a deep pan (about 2 inches deep) to 350°F (175°C).
5️⃣ Drop spoonfuls of batter into the oil and fry until golden brown, flipping once (about 2 minutes per side).
6️⃣ Remove and drain on paper towels.
7️⃣ Whisk together glaze ingredients and drizzle over warm fritters.
🔥 Bonus Tips:
✔ Want them super crispy? Fry smaller batches so the oil stays hot.
✔ Make it fall-festive: Add a dash of nutmeg or allspice.
✔ Best served: Warm, with hot coffee or apple cider. 🍂☕
