Learning to Rest in God’s Presence
In a world that constantly pushes us to do more, be more, and achieve more, rest often feels like a luxury we can’t afford. But God designed rest not as an afterthought, but as a necessity—something our souls desperately need.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
True rest isn’t just about stopping our work—it’s about abiding in God’s presence and trusting that He is in control.
Why Do We Struggle to Rest?
We feel guilty for resting.
Society tells us that being busy equals being valuable, but God never measures our worth by our productivity.
We carry too much on our own.
We act like everything depends on us, forgetting that God is the one who holds everything together (Colossians 1:17).
We don’t trust God to take care of things.
Rest requires surrender. When we rest, we declare, “God, I trust You to handle what I can’t.”
Rest is an Invitation, Not a Command
Jesus didn’t say, “Come to me, and I’ll give you more to do.” He said, “Come to me, and I will give you rest.”
Rest is a gift, an invitation to breathe, slow down, and be renewed. It’s in resting that we hear God’s voice more clearly and find strength for what’s ahead.
How to Find True Rest in God
Spend time in His presence – Take time to pray, worship, and just be with Him.
Let go of control – Trust that God is working, even when you are resting.
Embrace the Sabbath – Set aside time to step away from work and refocus on God.
Find peace in His promises – Remind yourself that God never stops working on your behalf.
Rest is a Form of Worship
Psalm 23 paints a beautiful picture of rest:
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul.” – Psalm 23:2-3
God doesn’t just want you to survive—He wants you to flourish. And that begins with resting in Him.
A Prayer for Today:
Lord, I lay down my worries, my busyness, and my need for control. Help me to find true rest in You. Remind me that my worth is not in what I do but in who I am in You. Restore my soul today. Amen.
