Finding Peace in the Storm
Life isn’t always calm waters and clear skies. Sometimes, we face unexpected storms—uncertainty, loss, stress, or fear. In those moments, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, like a small boat caught in crashing waves. But Jesus offers a peace that is greater than any storm.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” – John 14:27
Jesus in the Storm
One night, Jesus and His disciples were crossing a lake when a fierce storm hit. The waves crashed, and the boat was tossed by the wind. But where was Jesus?
He was sleeping.
Terrified, the disciples woke Him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
Jesus got up and said, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Then, with a simple command, He calmed the storm.
(See Mark 4:35-41)
What We Learn from This Story
Jesus was in the boat the whole time.
The disciples felt alone, but Jesus was with them—even while they feared the worst. You are never alone in your storm.
Fear makes storms feel bigger than they are.
Fear magnifies problems, but faith reminds us that God is bigger than any storm we face.
Peace comes from trust, not circumstances.
The storm didn’t wake Jesus—His disciples’ fear did. True peace isn’t about calm waters but about knowing Who is in control.
How to Hold Onto Peace in Life’s Storms
Fix your eyes on Jesus, not the waves.
When Peter walked on water, he sank the moment he looked at the wind instead of Jesus (Matthew 14:30). Keep your focus on Him.
Pray instead of panic.
Bring your fears to God, and exchange worry for worship.
Remember His promises.
Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
A Prayer for Today:
Lord, when the storms of life feel overwhelming, help me to fix my eyes on You. Remind me that You are in control, and I can trust You completely. Fill my heart with Your peace. Amen.
