The Burning Bush – When God Calls Your Name

A Moment That Changed Everything

In the wilderness of Midian, a shepherd named Moses was tending his father-in-law’s flock. Just an ordinary day, doing ordinary tasks—until something caught his eye.

There, in the distance, a bush was burning, but it wasn’t consumed by the flames. Intrigued, Moses moved closer. That’s when everything changed.

Take Off Your Sandals

“Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
(Exodus 3:5)

In that moment, Moses was no longer just a shepherd—he was standing in the presence of the Almighty God. It wasn’t about the bush or the fire; it was about God choosing to meet Moses right where he was.

God revealed Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and then did something even more astonishing—He called Moses to go back to Egypt and free His people from slavery.

When God Calls the Unqualified

Moses’ first reaction was not excitement—it was fear. He felt unworthy and incapable.

“Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” (Exodus 3:11)

But God didn’t choose Moses because he was qualified; He chose him because He had a plan. God’s response was simple and powerful:

“I will be with you.” (Exodus 3:12)

This is the heart of God’s calling. He doesn’t expect us to have all the answers or the strength. He just asks us to step forward in faith and trust His presence.

Your Burning Bush Moment

Sometimes, we feel like our everyday lives are just routines, but what if God wants to meet us in those ordinary moments?

  • When you feel inadequate, remember Moses.

  • When you’re afraid to step out, remember God’s promise: “I will be with you.”

  • When God calls your name, don’t focus on your weakness—focus on His presence.

God calls each of us to make a difference, not because of who we are, but because of who He is.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, thank You for meeting me in the ordinary moments. When You call my name, help me to respond in faith. I may feel unworthy or afraid, but I trust that You are with me. Give me the courage to step forward when You call. Amen.
