Joseph’s Story – God’s Purpose in Our Pain
"You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good."
Betrayed. Sold. Wrongly accused. Imprisoned.
Joseph’s life seemed like a series of misfortunes. But through it all, God was working behind the scenes.
When Life Feels Unfair
Joseph’s brothers threw him into a pit, sold him into slavery, and assumed they had erased him from their lives.
Yet, even in the lowest moments, God never left him.
“The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered.” (Genesis 39:2)
From Potiphar’s house to Pharaoh’s palace, Joseph's story was filled with injustice. But every trial was shaping him for something greater.
God Turns Pain Into Purpose
After years of suffering, Joseph rose to a position of power in Egypt. When famine struck, the very brothers who betrayed him came seeking food. Instead of revenge, Joseph chose forgiveness.
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” (Genesis 50:20)
What if our struggles are not setbacks, but stepping stones?
What if our pain is not wasted, but repurposed for something greater?
Joseph’s life reminds us that God is always at work, even in the hardest seasons.
Trusting God in the Hard Times
When life doesn’t make sense, we have two choices:
We can become bitter, or we can trust God’s bigger plan.
We can give in to despair, or we can believe that God can bring beauty from ashes.
Joseph’s story proves that no suffering is wasted in God’s hands.
A Prayer for Today
Father, when I don’t understand what You’re doing, help me to trust that You are working all things for good. Give me the faith to believe that even my pain has a purpose. Amen.
