Be Strong and Courageous – God’s Presence in Every Battle
Key Verse:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
The Setting
Moses was gone. The weight of leadership now rested on Joshua’s shoulders. Ahead of him lay fortified cities, powerful enemies, and a land filled with uncertainty. Yet God’s first words weren’t about strategy, numbers, or weapons—they were about courage.
God’s Command, Not a Suggestion
Notice this wasn’t encouragement—it was a command. God knew Joshua would face fear. But courage doesn’t mean the absence of fear; it means choosing to move forward because God is with you.
Joshua’s task wasn’t to figure everything out—it was to trust that the presence of God was greater than the power of his enemies.
The Purpose
The purpose of this verse is to remind us that courage comes from God’s presence, not our circumstances. Whatever lies ahead—a difficult decision, a painful loss, or an overwhelming task—God’s command to Joshua echoes into our lives today: “Be strong and courageous. I am with you.”
A Prayer for Today
Lord, give me courage that comes from Your presence. When fear rises up, remind me that You go with me into every battle. I don’t walk alone—I walk with the Almighty God. Amen.
