Faith Like a Mustard Seed: Growing in Trust

Have you ever seen a mustard seed? It’s one of the smallest seeds in the world, yet it grows into a strong, towering tree where birds find rest. Jesus used this tiny seed as a picture of faith:

“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20

Faith isn’t about size—it’s about trust. Even the smallest faith, when placed in God’s hands, has the power to grow into something life-changing.

Small Beginnings, Big Growth

When we look at a tiny seed, it’s hard to imagine the tree it will become. Faith is the same way.

  • Maybe you’re just beginning your walk with God.

  • Maybe you’re praying about something but haven’t seen results.

  • Maybe you feel like your faith isn’t “big enough.”

Jesus reminds us that faith starts small but grows when nurtured. Each prayer, each step of trust, each moment of choosing to believe—these are like watering the seed. Over time, faith grows deep roots and becomes unshakable.

What Does Mustard Seed Faith Look Like?

  • Praying even when you don’t see answers yet.

  • Trusting God with what you can’t control.

  • Taking small steps forward, even when the outcome is unclear.

Faith isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about believing that God does.

How to Strengthen Your Faith

  1. Spend time in God’s Word – The Bible is like sunlight for your faith. It reminds you of God’s promises and gives you strength.

  2. Pray with expectation – Even when the answer takes time, trust that God is listening and working.

  3. Remember past faithfulness – Think back to times when God came through for you. If He was faithful then, He will be faithful now.

Watch Your Faith Grow

Like a mustard tree, faith grows when we trust God little by little. Keep believing, keep trusting, and watch how He moves in your life.

A Prayer for Today:

Lord, I may not have all the answers, but I choose to trust You. Grow my faith, even in the small things. Help me to believe that You are working, even when I can’t see it yet. Amen.
