Choose This Day – A Legacy of Faith
Key Verse:
“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” – Joshua 24:15
The Setting
Joshua had led the people through victories and into the Promised Land. Near the end of his life, he gathered the tribes of Israel for one last address. His message was not about battles, land, or armies. It was about choice.
He reminded them of all God had done—delivering them from Egypt, parting the Jordan, bringing down Jericho, granting them victory over enemies. Then he challenged them:
“Choose this day whom you will serve.”
The Deeper Lesson
Faith is not passive. It is a daily decision. Joshua’s words echo across generations because every heart has to choose: Will I serve the gods of this world—comfort, success, control—or will I serve the Lord?
Joshua understood that our choices don’t just affect us—they shape the legacy of our families. “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” That was more than a personal statement. It was a declaration of legacy.
The Purpose
The purpose of this passage is to remind us that our faith impacts generations. Choosing to serve God is not only for our benefit but also for those who come after us. Every choice to love, forgive, pray, and obey plants seeds that can outlive us.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, help me to choose You every day. May my words, decisions, and actions reflect a household committed to You. Let my legacy be faithfulness, so that generations after me will know that You alone are God. Amen.
