The Sun Stands Still – Bold Prayers to a Mighty God
Key Verse:
“So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies…” – Joshua 10:13
The Setting
Joshua was leading Israel against the Amorites, and the battle was fierce. Time was running out—the sun was setting, and with it, the chance for victory. Joshua did something unthinkable: he prayed for the sun to stand still. And God answered.
The universe shifted at the cry of one man’s faith.
The Deeper Lesson
Joshua’s prayer was bold, audacious, and humanly impossible. Yet it reminds us of something vital: our God is not limited by time, nature, or circumstance.
Too often, we pray small prayers because we fear disappointment. But Joshua shows us what it means to ask big—not because we are great, but because God is.
When was the last time you prayed for something so bold it scared you?
The Purpose
The purpose of this story is to remind us that God delights in faith-filled prayers. He wants His children to believe that He can move mountains, stop the sun, heal the broken, and transform the impossible. Bold prayers honor a mighty God.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, forgive me for praying small, safe prayers. Give me the courage to ask for bold things that only You can do. Teach me to trust that nothing is impossible for You. Amen.
