The Call of Abraham – Walking by Faith, Not by Sight
"Go to the land I will show you."
Imagine packing up your entire life and setting out toward an unknown destination. No map. No certainty. Just faith.
This was Abraham’s journey.
Stepping Into the Unknown
God called Abraham (then Abram) with these words:
“Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1)
He didn’t give him a detailed plan. He didn’t provide guarantees. Yet Abraham obeyed.
“Abram went, as the Lord had told him.” (Genesis 12:4)
This is what it means to walk by faith—to trust God even when we don’t have all the answers.
God's Promises Are Worth the Wait
Abraham's journey was filled with waiting.
God promised him a son, but years passed.
God promised to make him a great nation, but obstacles arose.
God promised to bless the world through him, but the path was long and uncertain.
Yet, even when Abraham doubted, God remained faithful.
“Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14)
At the right time, Sarah gave birth to Isaac—the fulfillment of God’s promise.
What It Means for Us Today
Abraham’s story reminds us that faith is a journey, not a single moment.
It means trusting God even when things don’t make sense.
It means believing in His promises even when the wait is long.
It means stepping forward in obedience, knowing that He will guide the way.
A Prayer for Today
Father, help me to trust You as Abraham did. Even when I don’t see the full picture, I choose to walk by faith. Strengthen my heart when waiting is hard and remind me that Your promises never fail. Amen.
