Sourdough Pide (Boat-Shaped Flatbread Filled with Flavor)

Why This Recipe?

Pide is the Turkish cousin of pizza—but with golden edges folded like a boat and bursting with delicious fillings. With sourdough, the crust gets chewier, tangier, and perfect for cradling melted cheese, eggs, or spiced meat.

🛠️ Ingredients (Dough):

  • 1 cup sourdough discard

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup warm water

  • 2 tbsp yogurt

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp salt

Filling (Ideas):

  • Shredded cheese + egg

  • Ground beef + onions + paprika

  • Spinach + feta + chili flakes

⚡️ Instructions:

1️⃣ Mix all dough ingredients until smooth. Knead and rest for 4–6 hours until puffy.

2️⃣ Divide into 2–3 balls. Roll each into a long oval.

3️⃣ Add filling to center. Fold edges inward and pinch ends to make a boat shape.

4️⃣ Brush edges with oil. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15–20 minutes until golden.

5️⃣ If using an egg, crack it in halfway through baking!

🔥 Bonus Tips:

✔ Serve hot with lemon wedges or fresh parsley.
✔ Add a sprinkle of za’atar or sesame seeds on the crust for flair.
✔ Use parchment—it helps keep the shape and makes cleanup a breeze!
